Gård Nordic Kitchen, Brussels

Attached to our hotel, we visited Gard Nordic Kitchen when we fancied a light dinner. The menu is succinct but has enough variety for most people. We both fancied the pickled beetroot dish so ordered two of them.

This dish is on their appetizer menu but when it came out, it was quite large. We presumed they had plated two portions onto one plate for us to share but when it came to the bill it seems my order had got a little lost in translation and this was just a large one person portion.

The description of our dish is below and whilst it did resemble that, it wasn't quite the same. We didn't have any hazelnuts but we did have a quince like fruit which was a nice accompaniment. We also didn't have any pumpkin seeds. We did miss the crunchiness but overall it was a good dish.

Pickled beetroot with honey caramelised goats cheese, toasted hazelnuts and pumpkin seeds and micro herbs.

The service was good considering we were the only people in the restaurant at 7pm. It was during summer holidays and as this is in the "European" area, most businesses were shut down so I wouldn't say that is typical for this restaurant.

If only we had been hungry enough to try some of their salads, flatbreads or deserts as they sounded amazing - I would come back again. Gard Nordic Kitchen also have restaurants in Oslo, Amsterdam and Gdynia.
