Kellermeister Privat - 2015 Blauer Zweigelt

Good for: meats or cheese

I didn't know much about zweigelts before visiting Austria but I believe this is fairly typical of the region. A rich ruby red with a slight cherry taste.

When I tried the wine, there was an almost sharp taste at first which surprised us but then it became smooth and velvety and mellowed in my mouth. I think it really just needed to breath a little and became delicous with each sip.

The zweigelt grape variety was developed in 1922 by an Austrian named Fritz Zweigelt by crossing St Laurent and Blaufränkisch. It is now the most widely grown red grape in Austria and is branching out not only to other nearby countries but also Canada and the USA.
